One of the great British Rock Bands, Deep Purple have survived numerous band member changes in their 40 year history. Their second and most commercially successful line-up featured Ian Gillan (vocals), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Jon Lord (keyboards), Roger Glover (bass guitar) and Ian Paice (drums). Other band members include Steve Morse and singer David Coverdale. Paice is the only member of the band who has remained throughout. Their most famous album, released in 1971, Machine Head includes the classic track 'Smoke On the Water' inspired by the burning down of the Casino in Montreux. The band have continued to tour throughout their career and their most recent album 'Rapture of the Deep' was released in 2005.
